Montessori Course Correspondence - How Learning Makes Things Happen

When I was a child I spent a year on Montessori course correspondence. I did not enjoy the classroom environment. It was noisy, cold and crowded with many other children.
My mother tried to talk me out of it, but she also told me I would remember everything. Years later I realized that they were right. I remember everything in those two years: I remember everyone's names and faces, my name and when I went to school, how I was dressed and how I behaved.

After two years on course correspondence, I went back to school and spent the next two years learning how to write a letter. There are some schools that require letters to be written by the students; but some of them allow the teachers to do it. By the time I started school, I could write a letter in less than five minutes!

I have just recently completed a Montessori course correspondence course for a friend of mine who has cerebral palsy. I could see immediately that it would be a special day for her, especially since I was able to write the letter for her. I wrote the letter in the old-fashioned way, using the letter language, words like "would you "please" as well as "thank you "I wish you health".

She said that in this letter the writing style was quite different from what she was used to. It took some time for her to get used to it, but when she did she looked at me with an amazed expression. I think she had the impression that I was some kind of a genius.

Her favorite part of the letter was the fact that it had a nice touch of humor in it. She would always ask what the joke was, and I would tell her. She would sometimes read it out loud to her family, and when she heard me say the words, "Would you please...!" she would look at me and laugh.

In the next few months I was able to write her some letters on course correspondence. One of them was a letter of introduction to another child who is from her class. I can still hear her saying in her monotone voice, "Oh, you have really come back to school."

Learning has always been important to me. At the age of three I was in a play and I wanted to be "nursed". At five I learned that people mean different things by the word "nurse".
As I grew older, I learned more about the importance of learning. The more I read and learned, the more my friends and I grew up, and the more I did something myself.

During the summer months, I began to realize that I would be much better at making things happen. I was willing to work hard in order to succeed, and the more I worked, the more I achieved.
It is important to cultivate the qualities of self-reliance, strength of character and patience. These are the characteristics that give us life.
